DURING his working visit to Indonesia, Singapore’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan met with Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Tuesday (23/4).
The meeting was in preparation for the Leaders’ Retreat between President Joko Widodo and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Bogor Palace on Monday (29/4).
The two ministers are optimistic that economic relations between the two countries will continue to be strong through various potential bilateral cooperation, including green energy, especially solar farms, carbon capture storage, Batam-Bintan-Karimun development, digital connectivity and data centers.
Furthermore, Airlangga also said that many data centers will be built around the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) to support its development which carries a modern and digitalized concept.
One of the strategic collaborations emphasized is human resource development through skills development, talent exchange in the digital sector, and increasing capacity in the healthcare sector.
“The Indonesian government continues to support strong relations with Singapore both bilaterally and within the ASEAN framework for economic growth and regional stability,” said Airlangga.
The Coordinating Minister and Vivian also exchanged views regarding Indonesia’s accession to the OECD as well as geopolitical dynamics in the Middle East in an economic context. On this occasion, Foreign Minister Vivian was also optimistic that Indonesia would complete the accession process smoothly.
Also present at the meeting were the Singapore Ambassador to Indonesia and the Deputy for International Economic Cooperation at the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy. (RO/Z-6)
