Scandal in Serie A. Supporters of Hellas Verona afford an action that can hardly be surpassed in tastelessness. A banner was hung next to the stadium the night before the Napoli game. It features the flags of Russia and Ukraine. Below the coordinates of the city of Naples.
The Hellas chaos probably wanted to offer Naples as a target for Russian and Ukrainian air attacks. Below it was the lettering of the Curva Sud, a right-wing extremist fan group in Hellas Verona.
The poster caused great outrage. For example, one Twitter user said: “How far human idiocy can go…” Another said: “The poster is an example of the racist, violent, inhuman and barbaric thinking of certain people. They’re not beasts, they’re animals.” A user called for the club to be excluded from all championships and added: “Society is doing nothing to free itself from this damn racist and fascist public in which it is.”
Napoli, meanwhile, won the game 2-1. Verona did not comment on the scandal. It is not currently known whether the action will have consequences for the club.
