Working is more than just making money. Working means meaningful employment, personal development and participation in society – regardless of how high the need for support is. The integrative employment model of the four communities of Kremsmünster, Ried, Sattledt and Sipbachzell enables people with disabilities to be part of a company and represents an important step towards inclusion.
The Diakoniewerk Upper Austria accompanies people with disabilities on this path. As part of the community cooperation, three employees with disabilities from the Bad Hall workshop of the Diakoniewerk have been working in the farms three days a week since November 15th. For the time being, this will take place as part of an internship; full-time employment for four employees is planned from spring. The area of activity includes gardening work, site beautification, garbage collection and cleaning of park areas. The aim is to give people with disabilities the opportunity to work where everyone works. Practice shows that it is good for both sides because it makes everyday working life more diverse. At the opening, Gerhard Obernberger, mayor of the local community of Kremsmünster, expressed his view: “People with disabilities take part in a normalized everyday life as part of integrative employment, are supported and encouraged. This represents an important step towards independence, normality and inclusion society.” The local leaders Gerhard Huber (Sattledt), Stefan Weiringer (Sipbachzell) and Stefan Schöfberger (Ried) agreed.
“Many people who have already made the step into integrative employment have one thing in common: they are very proud to work in a company and enjoy what they do. Close to real, completely normal life,” says Dorothea Dorfbauer, managing director of the Diakoniewerk Upper Austria.
