The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Burkina Faso, Olivia Rouamba, and of Mali, Abdoulaye Diop, held a meeting with their Nigerien counterpart Bakary Yaou Sangaré and the Prime Minister installed by the junta Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine.
The Malian and Burkinabè guests have renewed their support in the face of sanctions from ECOWAS and the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) which they deem ” illegal, illegitimate and inhumane ».
They repeated their opposition to a possible armed intervention in Niger, which would be considered a declaration of war if it took place.
The three Sahelian countries wish ” boost their cooperation “, in particular by the establishment of ” tripartite commissions », the creation of a joint secretariat and pooling their resources to combat terrorism in the region.
But it is above all the signing of two ordinances by General Abdourahamane Tiani, head of the Nigerien junta of the CNSP, which were welcomed by the allies: they officially authorize the Burkinabè and Malian forces to ” intervene in Niger in the event of an attack ».
These orders come in direct response to an announcement by ECOWAS, stipulating that the chiefs of staff of its members have announced have already set the date for a possible West African military operation.
