Coolio, the rapper behind the hit “Gangsta’s Paradise,” has died

Coolio, whose original name was Artis Leon Ivey Jr., rose to fame in the 1990s as one of the biggest names in California rap.

His peak of success came in 1995, when he released the song “Gangsta’s Paradise” as part of the “Dangerous Minds” soundtrack, which became one of the most popular rap songs up to that date. With the song topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 3 weeks and won a Grammy Award.
