The 31-year-old gym owner from Thessaloniki who was arrested after a 17-year-old girl complained that he showed her his genitals and masturbated in his office was sentenced.
According to the 17-year-old girl’s complaint, the 31-year-old gymnast from Thessaloniki sexually harassed her between 27.09.2024 and 11.10.2024, where she revealed to her mother what happened. The minor girl complained that everything was happening in the office of the gym located in a village in Thessaloniki. She even mentioned that the 31-year-old sexually harassed her 5 times during this time, showing off his genitals and masturbating in front of her. After the minor complained to the police, the 31-year-old man was arrested.
At the expense of the gym owner, the criminal prosecution prosecutor brought a charge of abuse of a minor, as a follow-up. Today, 15.10.2024, the 31-year-old gymnast appeared before the 1st Single-Member Misdemeanor Court of Thessaloniki for the adjudication of the case.
What the mother of the 17-year-old claimed in her testimony
The mother of the 17-year-old who made the complaint against the gymnast stated in her testimony: “My daughter is a track and field athlete. They had daily contact and the gymnast was for two years her coach in the team. Not the main coach but intermittently. He stopped in June because of classes and was going to the gym. Since September. He gave her the exercises to do, he gave her the schedule.
Last Saturday he was reading and I was doing chores. She told me she wanted to tell me something and I sat next to her. And he told me about the trainer, whom I had complete confidence in. She started crying and said she showed me…pointing to the genitals. He told me that he knocked on his office door to get the program and told me to come. She went in and he was in the bathroom with the door ajar and he turned around and saw his mole. He got scared and ran away. And it happened again. Twice in the office, as he told me. The other times he took out his mole and watched it. She told him what are you doing and he said to her is it bad? Don’t you like it? And he’d leave, go to the instruments and come up next to her and keep talking to her about it.
I couldn’t ask if he masturbated. She began to wonder if she did something bad or caused it herself.
I don’t know if he knew that my daughter was going to the office and getting ready. After my daughter told me everything, I went and reported it directly to the police. I have complete confidence in my daughter. He didn’t show any signs, he seemed like a good kid. Her partner knew everything and was telling her to reveal it to us. And the day before he told her that, because it is very serious, he will tell us himself. So he decided and told me the next day.
The gymnast denies everything
The 31-year-old denied everything and stated in his apology: “The girl came to the stadium and I coached her team on some days and on some occasions. Now at the gym he came to do a strength training. I had also spoken to her mother. The first couple of days I guided her a little more in terms of what she would do on one day and the next. He was looking for me when I was there. He was looking for it. He was coming to my office. He didn’t lock the door, he opened it and walked in. I have scolded her when she came in and saw me naked while I was about to go in for a bath.
Another time and while he had asked me for instructions on the exercise and I went out and gave them, 5 minutes later he entered the office and I was getting ready to go to the bathroom. I believe that the complaint was made through a third party. Some others urged her. Or her mother or someone else. He may have been pressured. Maybe he was embarrassed to see me naked. Maybe she was offended by the remark I made to her, I don’t know. I don’t know if he saw me romantically. If as a coach he saw me like that, I can’t understand that.”
The court found the 31-year-old gym owner guilty and sentenced him to 8 months in prison suspended for 3 years.
