Convicted Carlos Mattos is hospitalized and in intensive care

Carlos Matts – the businessman convicted of bribing judges who favored his trial before the courts – was urgently admitted to a medical center in the Atlantic.

He was admitted to the Caribe clinic in Barranquilla since January 5. According to the medical report, he is in Intensive care unit due to some heart problems.

Marc Corredor Arenas, medical director of the clinic, pointed out that Mattos presents “Acute coronary syndrome type AM SEST, syncope of probable cardiogenic origin.”

Mattos’s defense had reiterated the need for the prisoner’s conditions to be modified in which he was imprisoned because, as he argues, he had a serious health condition and multiple illnesses.

At the end of August, the businessman was transferred from the Cómbita prison (Boyacá) to a prison in Barranquilla. The prisoner’s lawyer, Jesús Albeiro Yepes, pointed out that the reason for the transfer had to do with health reasons.

“The reason that we have repeatedly alleged before Inpec is its critical health situation. The risks to his health and his life on that thermal floor –according to his medical history– and also the family roots. His family lives in that city (Barranquilla), ”said the lawyer
