Convicted Businessman Eduardo Macaya Returned to Preventive Prison After Controversial House Arrest

Following a controversial house arrest ruling, the businessman convicted of sexual abuse of minors will have to return to preventive detention while awaiting the finalization of his sentence.

After it was reported this Friday that Eduardo Macaya, convicted of sexual abuse of minors, was returning to preventive detention, his defense attorney spoke with the media about the new decision of the San Fernando Criminal Oral Trial Court.

Let us remember that the father of UDI senator Javier Macaya was under house arrest after spending a brief period in the Rancagua prison, where he allegedly received preferential treatment from the facility’s staff.

What did Eduardo Mac aya’s lawyer say?

Sergio Salas, the businessman’s attorney, stated that he will be re-entering “the same hospital” and that the same thing will happen again as the last time preventive detention was ordered against him.

“It’s the same hour as when he had to enter last time,  where do you think he will go now? To the same hospital until a doctor evaluates him on Monday and sends him to the appropriate module“, the lawyer expressed.

Regarding the alleged benefits that Macaya may have received, specifically being in a health module for women, Salas indicated: “There is no privileged treatment. Prison authority has its procedures, and no inmate or accused decides the procedures. This time, the same procedures as last time will be applied, and the same thing will happen.”

However, the prison authority decided to open an administrative inquiry due to this supposed preferential treatment, as Macaya reportedly was even transferred without handcuffs or a yellow vest.

“This resolution  we will attempt to revoke as soon as possible“, concluded lawyer Sergio Salas about his client, Eduardo Macaya.
