Conversion of the German Tesla factory starting next week > teslamag.de

An older article from teslamag.de made waves once more on Monday. In mid-May, the editors reported that in the Tesla Gigafactory in Grünheide near Berlin only produces 86 Model Y per week and at the beginning of July a larger conversion for higher quantities was planned. The Bild newspaper picked up this article and turned it into a “Tesla shock” because production was to be interrupted for it. This two-week break had been planned for a long time. Initially, Bild reported it was due to start this Monday, then corrected itself to the next. This corresponds to current information that reached teslamag.de.

Double Tesla clock following conversion break

The article in Monday’s Bild newspaper does not otherwise contain any new information, but rather summarizes what has become known regarding events and plans in the German gigafactory in other ways in the past few weeks. Tesla itself is reticent as usual, but gave the interim result in June 1000 Model Y produced in one week for the first time. That’s extrapolated to around 50,000 per year, which is only a tenth of the target capacity, as the tabloid newspaper correctly writes. She doesn’t mention, however, that Tesla CEO Elon Musk mentioned long before launch and followingwards that achieving that goal would take a while.

On the other hand, the newspaper appears to have mixed up information that doesn’t directly belong together. In the original version, the break was said to start this Monday (July 4th). That was then corrected to next Monday. mid-May and also in a second post on the subject teslamag.de had only reported from “early July”. Rumors might have come into the Bild report on July 4th, from which point a third shift would begin in the German Tesla factory.

A well-informed source has now confirmed to teslamag.de that the date given by the newspaper on the second attempt, next Monday, is correct. Incidentally, this interruption of production in Grünheide had been planned since at least March. From July 11th, the vast majority of the previous Tesla employees will not be needed temporarily, it said. But following two weeks everyone should come back – and from August many more every week.

However, these new hires do not yet serve the goal of filling a third shift in the German Tesla factory, it was further heard on Monday. Rumors regarding this came up last week and are also mentioned in the picture report. On the other hand, teslamag.de confirmed that the goal of the conversion break is significantly faster production. From the current 90 seconds, the clock in the Gigafactory should be reduced to 45 seconds from August. The many new employees would also be needed for this – demand will double almost everywhere in production, it was said.

More wages in German Gigafactory from August

And from the beginning of August, Tesla will pay almost the entire Gigafactory workforce more money, it was further heard on Monday. That The IG Metall trade union recently raised the issue of wages at Tesla – with the claim that there is “gnashing of teeth” in the factory because new employees are paid better. But that doesn’t seem to be right, because as it was now said, new and old employees in Grünheide should instead get 6 percent more from August than under the previous rules. The only exception to this is management. However, there is said to be continued dissatisfaction with the salary level in the factory. At the lowest level, it is currently 32,000 euros per year.
