Controversy Surrounding Los Angeles Kings Preparatory Matches in Quebec: The Inside Scoop

2023-11-15 18:29:03

The preparatory matches that the Los Angeles Kings will play in Quebec next season have caused a lot of ink to flow in the last few hours.

Alexandre Pratt reported Tuesday that the Canadiens had offered to play at the Videotron Center without any state aid, in the fall of 2024, and that this offer had been refused.

Jean-Charles Lajoie, however, provided a completely different version during his interview with Mario Dumont on Wednesday.

“When the Kings wanted to accept this offer from the Quebec government, they contacted the NHL to request authorization. It was in September. The NHL has contacted the Canadiens to notify them. The Canadians did not object.”

Still according to the host of the TVA Sports channel, it was only in October that Canadians showed an interest in returning to the issue.

“A few weeks later, I am able to specify that it was in October, the Canadians made an approach to Gestev. After six years without showing any interest in returning to Quebec, the Canadians wanted to return. The Canadian would have let the Kings know quite clearly his deep discomfort at seeing another team establish themselves in his market. If the Canadians are not happy to see the Kings come and spend five days, how can Geoff Molson say that he agrees with the return of the Nordiques?
