Bradley Cooper has come under fire for spreading stereotypes regarding the Jewish community following the trailer for his upcoming biopic regarding Leonard Bernstein, Maestrorevealed his prosthetic nose.

Netflix unveiled the first teaser of the film in which the 48-year-old actor plays the legendary Jewish conductor. He wears a prosthetic nose. Some netizens later took aim at his appearance, proving through photos that Leonard Bernstein’s nose was nowhere near as imposing. “The real Leonard Bernstein did not have the funny nose that Bradley Cooper wears in Maestro, wrote a user. It seems completely pointless to have gone in that direction given the uncanny resemblance. »

The actress ofEastEnders, Tracy-Ann Oberman, who is Jewish, also denounced the actor’s decision to wear a fake nose. “If Bradley Cooper is able to play Elephant Man without any prosthetics, he should be able to play a Jewish man without the need for prostheses, especially a “Jewish” nose, the 56-year-old comedian told Page Six. If he needs to wear a prosthetic nose, it is, for me and for many others, the equivalent of a black face or a yellow face. »

However, the star of West WingJoshua Malina, who is also Jewish, supported Bradley Cooper, saying that his nose was designed to look “like a real person”.

He added, “Jews don’t actually have bigger noses than other people, Leonard Bernstein, yes. That’s all there is to say for me.”

The film, which also stars Carey Mulligan, Jeremy Strong and Maya Hawke, was co-written and directed by Bradley Cooper and produced by Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese. Maestro will premiere in competition at the Venice Film Festival in September. It will be released in select theaters on November 22 before being available on Netflix from December 20.
