After the participation of the Colombian National Team, in which they reached the quarterfinals, each participating soccer player won $90,000 dollars; The controversy over the prizes lies in the fact that they will be delivered to the Colombian Football Federation and not to each player, which might put at risk the effective delivery of the money to the players. Alejandro Pino revealed that the prize money has already been in the hands of the FCF for some time, but so far, they have not reached each player.

Why weren’t the awards awarded directly by FIFA?

Although initially, Gianni Infantino implied that FIFA was going to give the awards to each of the players to avoid conflicts of interest with each federation. After a while, Infantino expressed that it was difficult for FIFA to get the prize to each participant and assured that the intervention of the federations was necessary; This caused controversy, because the money, being relegated to various institutions, may not reach the players.

Álvaro González, vice president of the FCF, gave this response regarding the payments on August 18 of this year: “These are concepts of ignorance mixed with hatred, because it is understood that if FIFA issues a circular and establishes prize scales for the selections and another table where they talk regarding awards to the players, those awards are untouchable. Logically, FIFA is not going to provide bank transfers to the five hundred women in the world.”

Even so, the FCF has not disbursed payments to each player, two months following the final of the orbital event.
