singer Alicia Keys was at the center of a controversy on Monday after an anti-Semitism organization criticized a social media post made by the musician and accused her of using encrypted messages to signal her support for Hamas in its war with Israel.

Reason for the excitement: The American native, whose real name is Alicia Augello Cook, posted a photo of herself on Instagram and Twitter in which she is wearing a green leather jacket with black and white accents – colors that some remembered the flag of Palestine.

Keys captioned the post: “Question: What would you do if you weren’t afraid of anything???”
“Tell me your truth. I have my eye on paragliding,” she added.

The post was later deleted by the singer, who has over 27.1 million followers on Instagram.
Still, Key’s post caught the attention of advocacy group StopAntisemitism, which wanted to know whether the musician’s post was a subtle reference to the paragliders used by Hamas in its attack on Israel.
“In a now-deleted tweet, Alicia Keys shares a post about how she would try paragliding if she wasn’t afraid,” StopAntisemitism said in a tweet. “Is this a sick ode to the Hamas terrorists who infiltrated Israel, killed over 1,300 people, beheaded babies, raped women and kidnapped Holocaust survivors @aliciakeys?” wrote the anti-Semitism group addressed directly to the musician.
Alicia Keys then defended herself in an Instagram story saying that her post had absolutely nothing to do with Hamas.

“The post I previously shared had COMPLETELY nothing to do with the recent devastating loss of innocent lives,” the artist said. “My heart is broken…I pray and stand for peace.”
