Are you looking for a chic cardi coat for this winter? Maybe, but certainly not just any! While strolling with his wife a few days ago in a store in the town of Lausanne in Switzerland, a customer thought he was dreaming when he looked at a cardigan from the chic French brand Sandro. The pattern of the fabric looks exactly like the emblem of the Waffen-SS, the military branch of Nazi Germany.

“In one section, my wife asked me how I found it. I told her she would never wear it. She first asked me why, before looking at the item of clothing once more. She quickly understood. We both found it shocking to offer this in stores,” relates this customer. He immediately informed the supermarket staff: “A saleswoman thought the same thing as us. But I don’t know if it was mentioned above, though…”

The man insists: “I’m not being bigoted or nitpicking, but I don’t understand why no one noticed the similarity sooner. How might the designer or the brand have missed this? Before slipping: “Or maybe it’s a marketing strategy…” That doesn’t seem to be the case, according to Sandro.

“We identified this point in October and immediately withdrew this item from sale,” declares the French brand. We are, like this customer – whose reaction is completely justified – very surprised that this item was still available on the shelves in Lausanne. We are doing everything we can to ensure that our instructions have been applied throughout our network.”

The store in question therefore knows what remains to be done. The latter, which still offered the cardigan for sale in mid-December, indicates that brands are responsible for the designs they offer and ensures that this item has never been the subject of a complaint in this sense before.

That said, if this customer saw the Nazi symbol there, some will see it as a reminder of the logo of the American rock group Kiss or even Harry Potter’s scar…
