Controversy over Wearing Convictional Signs in Molenbeek: Mayor’s Concerns and Liberal Response

The wearing of convictional signs in the public service is therefore once again at the center of the news, and more precisely on the table of the Molenbeek municipal council. Can the mayor still count on her liberal partners during the end of the legislature? “I am very worried about what happens to the local MR if he agrees to be instrumentalized by the national MR on a theme that is clearly used by Georges-Louis Bouchez to seduce far-right voters”, loose Catherine Moureaux. “It is a theme that the president of the MR highlights. If the local elected officials follow it – which is not yet certain and I hope they will break away from it – I am very worried about their ability to achieve what Molenbeek is today.”

The president of the MR, Georges-Louis Bouchez, was obviously quick to react. He believes that Catherine Moureaux’s remarks are of “extreme seriousness and show all the instrumentalization of the issue.”

In a tweet, the liberal lists what he retains from the intervention of the socialist on LN24. “State neutrality is for Catherine Moureau of the extreme right” and “wearing the veil would therefore be ‘part of what Molenbeek is today’”, notes GLB. “Like Rudi Vervoort, in the DH, their only method of getting us to change the line is to intimidate us by saying that we will not be in future majorities. Put your heart at ease, we will not sell off our convictions and moreover, we know that we will be in the majority thanks to our electoral score. So thank you for your great advice, but threats don’t work, we’re not for sale.”
