The Japanese government is continuing its readiness posture while maintaining the order to destroy the space launch vehicle claimed by North Korea in case it falls into its territory.

However, when the North Korean projectile was launched, it is known that it was not properly prepared to intercept it due to a typhoon, and controversy is brewing.

The Japanese government has repeatedly stated that it will intercept the space launch vehicle claimed by North Korea or the falling object of the projectile if it falls within its territory.

To this end, it was planned to dispatch Aegis warships around Okinawa and respond with Patriots from three neighboring islands, including Ishigaki Island.

However, it is known that the Patriot deployment in charge of interception was not properly carried out on the same day that North Korea fired the projectile.

Japanese media reported that the Self-Defense Forces tried to deploy Patriot on the artificial island of Ishigaki Island in Okinawa Prefecture, but ultimately failed.

It also reported that the Patriots deployed on Miyakojima and Yonagunijima kept their launchers in a retracted state.

It is known that this was due to the measures of the Self-Defense Forces, concerned that the route to the planned deployment site would be cut off as the second typhoon approached, or that the launcher would topple over due to strong winds.

However, it is pointed out that not deploying the Patriot in a situation where there is a possibility of actual missiles flying due to bad weather is a problem with readiness.

A high-ranking official in our military said that some preparation for typhoons is necessary when deploying the Patriot, but it is a rule to deploy the Patriot in necessary training or combat situations unless the wind speed exceeds 90 km/h.

A Japanese government spokesman stressed that the Patriot was maintaining an appropriate readiness posture following pointing out that it was not deployed properly.

The Japanese government plans to maintain the order to destroy the satellite until the 11th, which is set by North Korea as the launch period.

Although Japan emphasizes strengthening its preparedness by issuing an order for sabotage measures in preparation for the fall of North Korea’s projectiles, doubts are growing as to how quickly and properly it can respond in an actual situation.
