For the past few days, the story has been controversial in the Italian press and on social networks. In June, two British tourists had to pay an extra two euros in an Italian restaurant following asking for their sandwich to be cut in half.
These two British tourists did not enjoy their visit to “Bar Pace” in Gera Lario, Italy on June 18.
A supplement of two euros has been added to the bill
On vacation in Italy, two tourists would have stopped in this bar for lunch. One of them then ordered a sandwich and asked for an extra plate to share with his friend.
When the bill arrives on the table, the two friends then notice that a supplement of two euros has been added to the receipt by the restaurant, for having cut the sandwich in half for them.
Very angry, the two tourists then complained on the Tripadvisor site by posting a negative opinion on the restaurant’s page: “There were two of us and we asked for a grilled sandwich to share at the table. We have to pay because the toast has been cut in half? Unbelievable but true”

“Additional requests have a cost”
Interviewed by the Italian newspaper The Republic, the owners of the restaurant justified this additional charge: “It was not a simple grilled sandwich, it also had fries inside. It took us a long time to cut it in half”.
Negative comments then began to pour in under the restaurant’s page on Tripadvisor and on social media, to which the tenants tried to respond: “Additional requests have a cost. We had to use two plates instead of one and the washing time is doubled, then two placemats”.
The owners explained in particular that if the customers had made a complaint when paying the bill, the two euro supplement would have been removed.
