New Delhi: The office of the Wrestling Federation of India has been shifted from the residence of former president and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The decision came following strong opposition from the Union Sports Ministry.
Earlier, the Sports Ministry had suspended the newly elected committee of the Wrestling Federation of India under the leadership of Sanjay Singh. Sanjay Singh, who is known to be close to Brij Bhushan, became the president, leading to strong protests by wrestling players. The new committee was subsequently suspended.
The Sports Ministry had stated in the suspension note that although the committee was newly elected, Brij Bhushan himself is controlling the federation. The announcement of matches without giving time to the wrestlers also led to the action. The central government suspended the new governing body of the wrestling federation following pressure from sportspersons.
After Sanjay Singh, a confidant of former president and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, was elected as the new president of the Wrestling Federation of India, the wrestlers came out with a huge protest. The intervention of the central government came following the stars including Padma Shri were returned.
The existing rules were not followed, including when the wrestling federation elected a new governing body. It is once morest the current rules that the chairman announced that the junior competitions will start by the end of this year immediately following taking charge. In the suspension order, the central government had pointed out that the competing players should be allowed 15 days for preparation, but the governing body might not consider that.
