Controversy and Clarity: A Deep Dive into the León vs América VAR Decision

2023-11-30 06:02:59

The first leg León vs América sparked a lot of controversy with the second goal by Henry Martín, who was on the verge of being offside, but according to the VAR and the referee Marco Antonio Ortiz, the goal was legal.

Was it out of character for Henry?

At the La Última Palabra table they debated the play and since they did not have a VAR image with the vectors, they made their own line and the majority insisted that the América striker was cleared with the exception of Fernando Cevallos.

“I just received an image with well-drawn vectors and it is clearly advanced, there it is,” mentions Cevallos, while showing the image from his cell phone.

Alex Blanco questioned the panelist regarding why he doubted the VAR and Henry Martín’s goal.

“Why doesn’t the VAR send the shot where it shows the vectors and says here is the goal? In the Premier League they send you the vectors and tell you ‘goal or no goal’, in the Spanish LaLiga the same thing, in the Champions League: ‘goal or no goal’ Why can’t we have the same in the Liga MX?

Gustavo Mendoza also entered the controversy and showed another image from his cell phone.

“In order for a decision of this type to be reversed, they have to find irrefutable evidence that what they marked was wrong,” he counterargued.

Cevallos insisted on the issue of lack of transparency in the VAR and Gustavo simply responded “I’m not going to argue with you regarding that.”

“But the referee did review it. He took a while to score the goal,” commented Alejandro Blanco.
