Controversial Tweet Compares Israel to Nazi Regime: Calls for Resignation and PS Reaction

Georges-Louis Bouchez, president of the MR, reacted vigorously, posting this on Twitter: “The boss of Solidaris, former PS Minister, publishes a photo where Israel is assimilated to the Nazi regime. We are here in the middle of a crime of anti-Semitism. He cannot remain in his position following such a mistake and insult to History. The PS must react, just as following André Flahaut’s tweet making an abject comparison with the Warsaw ghetto. What an indignity. What a danger to the Jews in Belgium and more generally what an attack on peace. It is not through these shameful comparisons, insulting History, which are never made in other conflicts, that we will succeed in appeasing and pacifying the conflict. On the contrary, this constitutes an attitude of legitimization of Hamas’s terrorist action. More than ever, the anti-Zionism of some people barely hides their anti-Semitism.”

After deleting the image from his private account, the Solidaris boss commented: “I would like to apologize for this publication, it sowed doubt regarding my beliefs. I did not want to make any amalgamation and I condemn all forms of anti-Semitism. This sharing was too quick and clumsy. My primary intention was to denounce the passivity of the international community. In this war of civilizations, justice is not rendered to the Palestinian people, we (the States, the political figures) have the duty to defend dialogue. This path is the only one to choose to move towards a peaceful solution. I fully subscribe to Edwy Plenel’s analysis: advocating dialogue to find a peaceful solution.”
