In controversial statements, well-known sports critic and media personality Fahd Al-Ruqi called for strict penalties to be applied to any player who expresses his unwillingness to join the national team.
Through his personal account on the Twitter platform, Al-Ruqi stressed the importance of players respecting the regulations and training camp obligations, stressing the necessity of imposing penalties, which include suspending players’ participation with their clubs for long periods in the event that they ignore these obligations or are excluded for reasons related to discipline.
Al-Ruqi added his statements, “Any Saudi player who does not submit to the Saudi national team’s request and the coach’s summons for him, and does not respect the camp, must be signed and banned from playing with his club, because the national team comes first.”

Fahd Al-Ruqi’s tweet is still ambiguous, as some suggested that he meant Al-Nasr player Sultan Al-Ghannam, especially following rumors circulated regarding his refusal to play under Mancini’s leadership in the Saudi national team, while others suggested that he meant Nawaf Al-Aqidi, who was officially excluded today from the team’s roster.
