In an outdoor pool in Austria, a bather shows unwanted acrobatics. The lifeguard “helps” him to fly. He kicks him off the diving platform.

Steyr – fear, anger, impatience – the emotional offshoots of the stormy human inner life displayed on a ten-meter tower. This is what happened in Upper Austria, where a lifeguard violently resolved an argument with a young bather. But instead of on a theater stage, the play ends up as a video on social media. This could become a problem for one of those involved – because the outdoor pool employee had previously reported the incident in a completely different way.

Boy kicked from the 10-meter tower: Lifeguard ends dispute in a rabid way

Blue sky, blue water – and somewhere in between a young bather and an outdoor pool employee on the ten-meter tower in Steyr’s municipal pool. The boy probably doesn’t want to leave this place between sky and water, expressed by clinging to the railing. The lifeguard obviously has a clear opinion on the direction the (soon to be) swimmer should take, illustrated by the foot in the back. A push, a second, then departure. The video shows the finale of an argument, the history of which is unclear.

And the lack of context in the three-second video also concerned authorities. Because not only is the procedure most likely not in the lifeguard textbook. The kick and the subsequent uncontrolled sailing down from a height of ten meters could have led to serious injuries.

This is probably one of the reasons why the Stadtbad employee put on record during the original processing of the incident on August 13 that the uncooperative young bather – who is also said to have provoked him – “only” pushed him off the tower. The tower should be closed again, the boy didn’t want to leave the ten-meter board and hid.

Video documents incident: Kick could have legal consequences for lifeguards

On Wednesday (August 23), however, the said video of the dispute appeared on social networks – and at least paints a more drastic picture than previously assumed or indicated. The city administration, which initially let the employee get away with a verbal warning, is now rowing towards the Austrian daily newspaper Krone back:

We’ve now seen the video. How to proceed with the lifeguard will be decided in the next few days.

The man, who is currently at least released from work in the bathroom for the time being, has apologized and knows that his actions were “not in order”, it is said krone.at further. “We also assume that this will not happen again,” announced the city spokesman from Steyr. In another case, however, the lifeguard was the victim of an attack.

How did the kick come about? So far one-sided presentation of the history

It is currently unclear whether the police must also take action in addition to the Steyr magistrate. Loud Kronenzeitung the involuntary high diver did not report to either the pool managers or the police. Without his statement, the prelude will probably remain unclear.

Meanwhile, German swimming pools are becoming increasingly rough, and mass brawls among teenagers and young adults are increasing. As a result, the entrances to some bathing establishments in Berlin were more like those of a discotheque; Admission was granted after strict ID checks.
