Controversial former kickboxer Andrew Tate arrested in Romania on suspicion of human trafficking and rape

Tate, who was previously banned from several social media platforms because of his misogynistic and racist statements but was recently allowed back on Twitter, was arrested together with his brother Tristan and two Romanian suspects and will be held for at least 24 hours. This is reported by the authorities in Bucharest, who have distributed a video of the arrest.

In a statement, prosecutors said the Tate brothers “are believed to have established a criminal organization for the purpose of recruiting, harboring and exploiting women by forcing them to produce pornographic material that can be viewed online for a fee.” Tate and his brother would have made a lot of money from it.

A criminal investigation into the American-British brothers has been underway since April. The two refrain from commenting, but their lawyer confirms their arrest.

Controversial statements

Andrew Tate was first discredited in 2016 when he was removed from the TV show Big Brother was put because it was recorded how he attacked a woman. After the incident, Tate wrote on Twitter that “women must take responsibility for sexual abuse.” He was subsequently banned from the medium and other social media such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. Despite this, his posts promoting misogyny have been viewed millions of times on other sites.

Earlier this week, Tate was discredited when he asked climate activist Greta Thunberg on Twitter for her email address so he might send her a list of all his cars and their respective emissions. The Swedish replied that he might send an email to the email address ‘smalldickenergy@getalife.com’.
