On September 3, 2021, a young woman presented herself at a dental service in La Louvière. She is treated by a dentist who compliments her on her beauty. A few minutes later, she presents herself, in a state of shock, in front of the two medical secretaries and demands to see the head of the practice. She claims the dentist tried to kiss her. This one is about a misunderstanding. The young woman calls her mother to ask her to call the police. A patrol takes his statement and questions the dentist, who disputes the facts. The case is closed without further action.
Three months later, on December 30, another young woman presented to the same dental office for urgent care. As her regular dentist is not available, the defendant takes charge of her. He gives her confidence, compliments her on her eyes, her mouth. “He offered her a massage to relax her jaw, she accepted. Then he took off his mask and gloves and gave her a deep kiss on the mouth. She pushed him away,” says the young woman’s lawyer.

She confirmed before the court of appeal, a chamber made up of three women, that she is still traumatized, that she relives the scene at the hearing. The lawyer for the other young woman says that this attack had consequences on her emotional life. On December 30, the police arrested the dentist in front of his colleagues and patients.
Position dominante
For the Advocate General, who is not on appeal, the court rendered a good judgment, which must be confirmed. The dentist had been found guilty of assaulting the sexual integrity of others, formerly called indecent assault. “He does not admit what he did, something more aggressive than a little kiss,” notes the magistrate of the general public prosecutor’s office. He adds that the dentist took advantage of the fact that the victims were dazzled by a powerful lamp, and trapped in a chair in a lying position. “On two occasions he abused his dominant position, it was a surprise.”
The dentist, who no longer practices his profession in La Louvière but elsewhere in the province, disputes the facts. “I consult two hundred patients a month and I do my job well. If I sometimes compliment patients, it is to relieve stress, after several months of Covid. I did my job well,” he said.

Regarding the massage, he also said that it was to relax the patient, who remained with her mouth wide open for an hour. Finally, he denies having removed his mask and gloves.
Not a sexual predator
“If we were faced with the sexual predator described by the prosecution, we would have more than two complaints,” argues Mr. Thomas Crombez, defense lawyer. The defendant’s colleagues were interviewed during the investigation. None noted inappropriate behavior towards women in their leader. “Plus, the medical assistants were going back and forth in the office and no one noticed anything.” An acquittal with the benefit of the doubt is pleaded.
The ruling is expected in mid-November.
