The rumor swelled on social networks in recent hours. It has been confirmed to us from a reliable source. The fate of Iron, who had participated, or assisted according to the points of view, in the death of little Talya in July 2021, is sealed. Its owner, mother of Talya, made the decision to recover the dog which directly sends the latter to death by court order. This Friday, Iron, whose behavior had greatly improved since arriving at the shelter, will be euthanized by a licensed veterinarian. At the end of last July, his lawyer told us that his client “was the only one who might make a decision”.
She had the choice between euthanizing the dog or entrusting it to the SPA. To the chagrin of the latter, to whom the dog had been entrusted the day following the tragedy, it was the first option that she chose. “We are still hoping that the owner of Iron changes her mind,” said Gaetan Sgualdino, president of SPA La Louvière. “She still has the power to save Iron. Justice can do nothing, only she might still do it.”
If Iron’s owner sticks to her decision by Friday, Iron would be taken away by the police to be euthanized at a veterinarian who agrees to do so. “Our desire, if really no other solution is possible, is to be able to practice euthanasia in our premises in La Louvière. This, in order to avoid as much as possible that Iron is stressed by this sad moment. Our fear is that there will be excesses and that the police will have to take him away…”
Vanessa Masset explains herself
In a letter addressed to the press, Vanessa Masset explains her decision which seems irreversible. “On July 11, 2021 in the evening, I was away for a few moments to go to a neighbor’s to ask him for help,” explains Talya’s mother. “When I returned home, I found my 8-year-old granddaughter Talya unresponsive covered in bite marks all over her body, she died moments later. When I entered the room, I saw my two American staff, their chests and mouths bloody. When the police subdued Iron, he was aggressive. The police will notice the presence of a long hair from Talya stuck between Iron’s teeth. I specify that Iron had the unfortunate habit of attacking the bun of hair and that day Talya wore a bun and was scalped. Iron is definitely involved in my child’s death. Even though Iron was young, he was already very powerful.”
And to Vanessa Masset to give details regarding her decision. “In memory of my little Talya, I want to prevent another tragedy from happening. The SPA did not want to commit to me and, on the contrary, it left Iron until recently in the presence of children. The euthanasia of Iron is not a revenge once morest the animal but the execution of a decision of the Court of Appeal which considered Iron as dangerous. Recently, the SPA offered me a sum of €2,000 to give up Iron. At the announcement of this proposal, I collapsed. Is this the price that the memory of my granddaughter represents in their eyes because, above all, it is not a question, in my eyes, of Iron’s fate, but of Talya’s death? I would now like to be left to grieve in peace. I do not want to deny my responsibility in the drama and I will assume this one until the end of my days because not a moment goes by that I do not think of Talya.
