Marcel Vermeulen, the highest civil servant in the municipality of Anderlecht, will be taking a career break for a year. His status authorizes him but the timing is questionable. This decision comes a month following the revelations of the Last Hour on the pressure exerted by Alderwoman Nadia Kammachi on the secretary. “There was then a meeting with all the Ecolo aldermen and the municipal secretary. The pressures continued, driven by Ms. Kammachi and Ms. Muller Hubsch. The others didn’t say anything.” This episode would have been the last straw for the municipal secretary. “He told me he was at the limit: it’s that or burn-out. He even hesitated to initiate proceedings for harassment.”
“If he leaves, it is because of pressure from Ecolo,” adds another municipal source. “Jérémie Drouart being on leave, Nadia Kammachi has taken over the head of the Ecolo teams (and the head of the list for 2024, Editor’s note) but not in the best way.”
Nadia Kammachi: “I don’t have all the power that people give me”
The main person concerned formally denies it and blames the timing. “I was warned that by becoming head of the list I was exposing myself to this type of blow. I have been an alderman for five years and I have no complaints. I certainly don’t have all the power that people give me in this matter. These accusations come out just following my announcements in the press concerning the wearing of conventional signs in the administration. Words that did not please everyone. The secretary is going to cycle around the world and that is obviously his right. Above all, we must ask ourselves who has the interest to make such accusations.”
However, Anderlecht therefore loses its municipal secretary for a year (an unpaid break of course). This Tuesday, the college will appoint Nathalie Coppens as acting municipal secretary. She already replaced him during his holidays. “The delay in the break is not trivial,” continues one of our sources. One year is exactly the time it takes to hope that upon his return the Ecolo interlocutor will have changed.” Others report a more tense conflict between municipal services and alderwomen Kammachi and Muller Hubsch. “This Bracops case was not the only one. The secretary felt caught between the aldermen and the departments. But for the past few weeks, he has been different. He prepared for his departure.”

Without him and given these elements, the question of the stability of the majority arises.” Allegations contradicted by Mayor Fabrice Cumps (PS): “there is no problem in decision-making at the college”. For his part, the municipal secretary prefers not to comment on the subject.
