The controversy arose when the bishop said that political martyrs are those who went to fight unnecessarily with those who saw them. Pamplani also preached that some of them fell off the bridge and died when they were chased by the police during the demonstration. He made the controversial remarks at the KCYM Youth Day celebrations in Kannur.
