Controversial Advertisement on Palais de Justice Scaffolding Removed: Régie des Bâtiments Takes Action

The Régie des Bâtiments had an advertisement hung on the scaffolding of the Palais de Justice under construction in Brussels removed on Wednesday morning. A report for burglary will also be drawn up and “other measures” will “possibly” be taken, the Belga Agency learned from the organization.

On the banner put up by the interim office, Impact, it read in English: “Dear politicians, it is our turn. And it won’t take us 40 years to do the job“.

An obvious nod to the many years of near inactivity (almost 40 years) before the renovation work finally started this summer“, indicates in a press release the director of Marketing & Culture at Impact, Isabelle Dumortier. The Régie des Bâtiments, the real estate manager of the federal state, nevertheless specifies that Impact “has nothing to do with the works of the Palais de Justice in Brussels or with the Régie des Bâtiments“. She says she deeply regrets this action of which she was unaware.

Also contacted by Belga, the communication office at Impact confirms that the company is not directly associated with the site: “But Impact specializes in technical trades and construction. Our idea was to highlight all building professionals.” “With this wink action, we invite politicians to take example from the professionals we work with, they are people who get things done with a solution-oriented approach. We are convinced that they would have solved the problem a long time ago and that politicians might learn from them in terms of initiative“, explains Isabelle Dumortier.

The restoration of the front facade of the Palais de Justice began on Monday August 7 and is expected to last approximately two years.
