The on-site visits of the veterinarians of the Region of Western Greece to the surveillance zone for the plague of small ruminants in the Lykouria area of P.E. Achaia have begun.
On Monday, July 29, 2024, on-site visits were made to 18 goat and sheep farms in the area, 2796 animals were clinically checked and 47 blood samples were taken which will be sent to the Veterinary Reference Laboratory in Athens.
At the same time, clinical investigations based on an epidemiological investigation continue throughout the Region of Western Greece. From the findings so far, no cases have occurred in the Region.
At the same time, an emergency call was held at the Cultural Center of Kalavryta of Kalavryta breeders from the Region of Western Greece and the Municipality of Kalavryta in collaboration with the Kalavryta Cooperative where 250 farmers were informed, in the presence of the Vice-Regional Governor Andreas Filia, the Mayor of Kalavryta Thanasis Papadopoulos, the Director of Veterinary Medicine Western Greece Service Mr. Kostas Miliou, the Director of EFET Dimitris Tsiboukis, executives of the Kalavryta and Producers Cooperative. The briefing was held with the participation of more than 250 livestock farmers.
