“Lebanon Debate”

Today, Monday, a press conference was held by Representative Halima Kaaqour and the Union of Parents and Guardians Committees in Private Schools in Lebanon from within the House of Representatives to inform parents of the reality of the educational sector and the performance of those concerned and to present legal solutions to control random school fees in front of public opinion and in full transparency.

In this context, the head of the Federation of Parent Committees in Private Schools, Lama Al-Taweel, explained, “The goal behind this conference is to inform the parents of what is happening with the parent committees in the ministry. We want to announce to the parents the things that we have done during the past period in all transparency.”

In an interview with Lebanon Debate, Al-Taweel revealed, “During the conference, solutions will be presented to set controls and standards for random installments.”

She stressed that “even if some private schools begin teaching, their tuition fees can be adjusted by a decision issued by the Ministry of Education. There is no fear of that, as the solution exists, but it requires a decision.”

What about the role of Representative Qaqour? She answered: “We, as family committees, raised our voices loudly and resorted to them, and they follow up with us on the educational file, and also participate in all meetings of the Education Committee, especially with regard to random installments.”

Al-Taweel stressed, “The goal today is to put an end to random installments, and we as a union have developed solutions, and among these solutions is the so-called financial audit and the provision of a statement of account through sworn experts, and a budget attached to this financial report, with all the required papers, such as restrictions and regulations for salaries and wages.” “.

In conclusion, I asked every school that claims transparency to prove it by agreeing to a financial audit.

During the conference, MP Halima Kaakour considered, “Today we are witnessing a tragedy in every sense of the word regarding the educational sector. There is collusion on the part of the Minister of Education and all party parties.”

She said: “We are raising the cry of the people who are unable to place their children in public schools. There is a violation of Law 515, because the tuition fees were decided without budgets and without deducting accounts from the schools, and they impose them on the families, and this is a violation of Article Five of the law, in the absence and neglect of the parent committees in the schools.” “Private”.

She explained, “This law includes a number of articles that regulate this private sector. There is a private schools lobby that is protected by the Parliament.”

In conclusion, I asked: “Where is the legal protection for the parents? What is required is to issue a decree to implement the law and oblige schools to provide a cut of accounts. We demand a complete audit of the budget, with salaries, wages and expenses. We call on the Minister of Education to take action because children have the right to learn.”
