Control of commercial fishing in the Curonian Lagoon is strengthened Business

Officials of the Department of Environmental Protection after the start of fishing with nets from July 22. until August 4 will check how the fishing logs are filled in, what the catches are, what fishing gear is used.

It’s important

• From July 16 to August 31. it is allowed to fish with 70-80 mm set nets only in the dark, when it is allowed to start fishing (start setting fishing gear) no earlier than 2 hours before sunset and finish fishing no later than 9 o’clock in the morning.
• The beginning of fishing is considered to be the time when fishing gear is started to be built or checked. The end of fishing is considered the time when, after checking or removing the fishing gear, the vessel reaches the place of landing of fish.
• From July 15 until October 31 fishing is prohibited at a distance of 2 kilometers from the eastern shore of the Curonian Lagoon between Klaipėda and the left bank of Atmata with set nets, large-mesh and marine traps, and in the 6-12 fishing bars of the Curonian Lagoon from the western shore of the Curonian Lagoon to the fairway with set nets, large-mesh and marine traps from July 15 . until October 31

Responsibility

A fine of up to 350 euros is provided for the violation of the commercial fishing order, and up to 1750 euros if a serious commercial fishing violation is committed.
