The Prime Ministerial Decree has been approved, which gives the green light to procedures to support the purchase of newspapers and magazines by schools. The decree signed by the Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council with responsibility for information and publishing, Alberto Barachini, and by the Minister of Education and Merit, Giuseppe Valditara, discloses and regulates the methods and criteria for accessing the contribution provided, starting from the 2024/2025 school year, for state and private schools, as written in the latest 2024 budget law. A law which, compared to the previous year, not only simplifies the administrative procedures for schools that can now purchase subscriptions to editorial products without specific indications regarding the adoption of reading education programs, but links the purchase to the school year and no longer to the calendar year, allowing for a wider time window.
“The contribution provided by the law is aimed at promoting reading among students and aims to encourage the acquisition of critical reading skills, also through the comparison of different editorial products – Barachini highlights -. At the same time, it represents a tool for economic support to educational institutions for the purchase of newspapers and magazines for educational purposes. The intent – he finally underlines – is also to have a positive effect on the editorial market”.
