In the first days of the summer season, poultry and egg prices witnessed a relative decline in the Kingdom’s markets, contrary to the increase that many professionals had expected during this period.
After a skyrocketing rise that lasted for weeks, during which chicken prices reached
To 25 dirhams per kilogram, it has dropped to a record low, so that its price now ranges between 15 and 16 dirhams per kilogram for “turkey” chicken, and between 9 and 11 dirhams for “cross” chicken.
According to professionals, the reason for the decline in the price of poultry is due to the fear of small and medium producers of its death in light of the current weather conditions that are witnessing a rise in temperatures.
Professionals explained that the decrease in the price of chicken comes at a time when the cost of production is still experiencing a significant increase due to the continued increase in the prices of feed and raw materials nationally, despite the fact that they have witnessed a decrease in the international market.
For its part, egg prices witnessed a slight decrease in various Moroccan cities, as the price of an egg reached one dirham, while it used to reach one and a half dirhams.
As for the prices of local eggs, they have also witnessed a noticeable decrease, as their price in installments ranges between one dirham and 80 cents.
A number of Moroccan citizens interacted via social media with this decrease in the prices of chicken and eggs following the heat wave that is hitting a number of Moroccan cities, calling on the relevant authorities to intervene in order to keep the prices of the two products affordable during the coming period.
