“Contradicting Saudi policies.” Al-Sadr calls for not showing a historical series

On Tuesday, the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, called on the Saudi “MBC” channel not to broadcast a historical series, which the channel intends to show during the month of Ramadan.

Al-Sadr said in a tweet on Twitter that showing the series “contradicts the new moderate policies pursued by the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

Al-Sadr considered that showing the series represented an insult to the feelings of a group of Muslims, and said: “There is no need to hurt the feelings of your Muslim brothers in the east and west of the earth. I am one of the advisers to you.”

The series “Muawiya”, which is produced by “MBC”, and is being filmed in Tunisia, deals with the story of the life of the Umayyad caliph Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan. It is considered, according to media reports, one of the largest works in the history of Arab drama, and its budget is close to $75 million. It was written by the journalist writer, Khaled Salah, in his first experiences in dramatic writing, and directed by Tariq Al-Arian, who, through this series, experiences his first experiences in directing TV dramas.
