Handoff, which can be translated as “without hands”, gives the possibility of starting a task on an Apple device and finalizing it on another. You must therefore have at least two devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple Watch) to enjoy it.
It often happens that I start replying to an email on my iPhone and then realize that the necessary attachment is stored on my Mac. With Handoff, I can resume my email right on my Mac, without having to save it as a draft first. The relay is done in an instant and avoids many manipulations. Note that Handoff also works between two devices of the same type, for example between two Macs.

Compatible apps
Handoff requires using the same app on your different devices, with one exception that I’ll come back to. Using the example above, Handoff will work using Apple’s Mail app on the iPhone and the Mail app on the Mac. The majority of Apple apps are compatible with Handoff: Notes, Safari, Mail, Maps, Reminders, Calendar, Contacts, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, FaceTime and Clock. FaceTime requires macOS Ventura (or newer), iOS 16, or iPadOS 16 (or newer). Third-party developers can of course integrate Handoff into their apps, as the publisher of Ulysses does, for example.
