Bogota

Although the dialogue between the Government delegations and the ELN guerrillas is on pause, the commitments acquired in the midst of the peace process remain.

This is the case of the ceasefire that was extended for six more months. It was activated on February 6 and runs until August 3 of this year. This was agreed upon by the parties at the end of the sixth cycle of talks that took place in Havana, Cuba.

The commitments continue, such as the suspension of kidnappings for economic purposes by this guerrilla, as well as military and intelligence operations.

The Monitoring and Verification Mechanism, which is led by the UN and the Catholic Church, also remains active. This body continues to monitor the agreements, according to the endorsement of the dialogue table, including the ceasefire, and continues to do its work with absolute normality. .

The ELN, for its part, has complied with the agreement with the peace delegation of the Colombian Government, such as releasing the kidnapped people in their possession. The last release was on February 23, three days following announcing the freezing phase. of the process, of the Afro-Colombian leader and founding member of the National Ethnic Peace Coordination, CENPAZ, Jhon Jairo Jiménez, who was in the hands of the ELN in Bolívar for 39 days. He was received by a commission from the UN and the Catholic Church.

For their part, the guarantor and accompanying countries of this peace process are taking steps and trying to establish links to try to reactivate the talks between the Government and the ELN.
