continued fighting amid humanitarian crisis

On the fourth day of the conflict initiated by Russia, the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine is intensifying. Thousands of families are trying to flee the country, at the cost of long hours, even days, of waiting on the roads to the west.

More than 100,000 people have already reached Poland, which hosts the largest Ukrainian community in Europe. Footage shot in the border town of Medyka shows many families, with young children, arriving following a long night of waiting at the border post. On the other side of the border, some are welcomed by their relatives. Others benefit from the humanitarian aid and donations that are distributed.

In the rest of the country, fighting continues, notably in Kharkiv and around Kiev.

Talks are to be held between Russian and Ukrainian authorities on Sunday at the border between Ukraine and Belarus.
