Continuation of the salary increase – Diario de Yucatán

GUADALAJARA (EFE).— The presidential candidate of the Let’s Keep Making History coalition, Claudia Sheinbaum, promised yesterday to continue the policy of the current president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, of annual increases in the minimum wage through a constitutional reform.

At a rally in the municipality of Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, the Morena candidate pointed out that the growth of the base salary must be above inflation to benefit the working class and reduce poverty in the country.

“Let it be recorded in the Constitution that the increase in the minimum wage must always be above inflation, never once more hunger wages in our country,” he declared before local Morena supporters and candidates.

In 2024, the minimum wage in Mexico increased by 20%, going from 207.44 pesos per day to 248.93 pesos in most of the national territory, while in the municipalities on the border with the United States, it went from 312 pesos per day to 375 pesos.

Claudia Sheinbaum referred to the country’s economic indicators, such as the recovery of the exchange rate, which has reached less than 17 pesos per dollar, levels not seen since 2015, which has led to greater foreign investment, she said.

“They said that if Morena came (to the Presidency) there would be no investment, that the businessmen were going to leave, look what you are thinking, that it is the year of greatest foreign direct investment in the entire history of Mexico,” he expressed.

The candidate of the Let’s keep making history coalition, made up of Morena, the Labor Party (PT) and the Green Party (PV) offered a pension to women between 60 and 64 years of age as a way to reward care work in the home and in raising children and grandchildren.

“Our nation would not be what it is without the work of Mexican women and for the first time we are going to recognize this invisible work of women and when they reach 60 years old we are going to give them monthly support, before reaching 65 to the universal pension,” he explained.

The candidate also promised that basic education students in public schools will have a universal scholarship to complete their studies and avoid dropping out, in addition to expanding spaces in high school for adolescents and young people.

The candidate will continue her campaign today in Aguascalientes and Zacatecas and then return to Mexico City, where she will prepare for the first debate organized by the National Electoral Institute (INE) next Sunday.
