The personal data of around 195,000 customers of public transport company Arriva may have been leaked. The data breach was in the contact form on the carrier’s website. There is a chance that unauthorized persons have gained access to the data of all people who completed the contact form.
The data breach may have made the names, email addresses, telephone numbers and dates of birth of approximately 195,000 Arriva customers visible to unauthorized parties. The leak came to light following a report from an ethical hacker, an Arriva spokesperson told NU.nl.
After the discovery, the public transport company temporarily took the form offline. Subsequently, research was carried out into the size and nature of the data breach. Security was subsequently restored, the carrier reports.
“We have no reason to believe that data from affected users has fallen into the wrong hands,” said the Arriva spokesperson. Nevertheless, the carrier has personally informed all customers affected by the data breach.
In addition, Arriva has reported the data breach to the Dutch Data Protection Authority, the company spokesperson confirms.
