According to the latest monthly bulletin released by Abraceelentitled “Boletim da Energia Livre”, presented surprising data on the growth of electricity consumption in the free energy market in Brazil.

The report revealed that, in the 12-month period ended in February 2023, there was a significant increase of 10.7% in electricity consumption in this segment. The numbers indicate a total of 26,959 average MW consumed, which would be enough to supply all homes and commercial establishments in the country in a hypothetical situation in which everyone was free to choose their energy supplier.

This freedom to negotiate prices, terms and contractual conditions offered by the free market has boosted consumption and fostered competitiveness in the energy sector.

Another highlight of the bulletin is the 17% growth in the number of consumer units in the free energy market in the last 12 months. This significant growth resulted in 4,609 new consumer units, totaling 32,142 units distributed among 11,265 consumers.

Each consumer unit corresponds to an energy meter and reflects a consumer’s choice to join the free market, taking advantage of the benefits of this contracting model.

This expressive increase in the number of consumer units demonstrates consumers’ growing confidence and adherence to the free energy market.

Within the Free Energy Market, Nova Energia, an electricity trading and management company, works actively to facilitate the migration of new consumer units, such as verifying eligibility and monitoring the entire process.
