Consumers’ electricity explodes in hearing on interim hike request – Business & Economy

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has sought a written response from K Electric on the request for an interim increase. Due to the incompetence of K Electric, the electricity consumers of Karachi have to suffer the punishment of load-shedding for hours.

A hearing was held on K Electric’s request for 9 months FCA collections under the chairmanship of member NEPRA Rafiq Ahmed Shaikh.

K Electric had requested a 9-month fuel adjustment from July 2023 to March 2024.

In the application, K Electric has asked for an interim increase of Rs 18 86 paise per unit.

K Electric has demanded an increase of over Rs 18 per unit in future bills

It has been stated in the application that there is a request to shift the load of 25 billion 83 crore rupees to the consumers in 9 months.

Nepra officials say that the interim increase has been sought due to K Electric not having a multi-year tariff.

During the hearing, a user asked whether an interim increase can be given according to the Nepra rules. If there is scope, why is the request for monthly adjustment delayed? On which Member Nepra Rafiq Ahmad Sheikh said that there have been some changes in the regime of CPPA.
