Construction workers get real wage increases | Nachrichten.at

The approximately 250,000 construction workers in various industries can look forward to a wage increase of between 7.2 and 7.8 percent from May 1st. The collective agreement concluded in 2023 for two years, “filled” with current inflation figures, means an increase in wages “well above the rolling inflation rate” and thus a real wage increase, said the chairman of the Construction Wood Trade Union (GBH) and SPÖ National Council member Wolfgang Muchitsch.

Rolling inflation for the past twelve months is currently 6.77 percent. Orientation towards the past also prevents the often cited wage-price spiral.

In the construction industry and the construction trade, the increase is 7.15 percent. The construction trades, painters, stone workers, upholsterers, glaziers, pavers, floor layers and well builders come to 7.70 percent. Wood builders and carpenters receive 7.25 percent more, while the stone and ceramic industries receive 7.27 percent more gross.

Other sectors have also recently concluded their collective agreements: in the non-profit housing industry there is a gross increase of between 7.8 and 8.3 percent, and in Agrana Strength it is 7.33 percent more. Driving school teachers have to be modest, they get 6.9 percent more.
