Construction work will begin in Neubrandenburg’s eastern part of town next week. According to information from Neubrandenburg’s town hall, the surface of the road leading into the city on Salvador Allende Street will be renewed starting Monday, September 23. Preparations for the construction work, including setting up the construction site, have already begun. The construction work is due to be completed by the end of October, according to the city administration.
Significant damage to the road
During construction work, the lane leading into the city will be completely closed. According to the city, traffic will therefore be directed on the lane leading out of the city, which will have one lane in each direction.
The reason for the construction work is considerable damage, breakouts, faults as well as previous repairs and surface treatments on Salvador Allende Street between the Hufeland Street and Ikarus Street/Juri Gagarin Ring junctions.
Almost 700 meters of road will be renewed
According to the city, an extensive surface renewal is to be carried out on the 962-meter-long stretch, including the intersection areas of Hufelandstrasse, Robert-Koch-Strasse and Kopernikusstrasse. To do this, the road surface will be milled to a thickness of up to ten centimeters at its existing width of between 6.85 and 7.15 meters, sprayed with a bitumen emulsion and then secured with an asphalt binder and surface layer, it is said.
The construction work is being carried out by the Neubrandenburg construction company NST (Neubrandenburger Straßen- Tiefbau GmbH). According to the city, the construction work will cost a total of around 589,000 euros, with 75 percent of the sum being funded by the state.
The construction site is also affecting bus traffic in the eastern part of the city, specifically on lines 8, 21 and 22. The “Klinikum” and “Kopernikusstraße” stops heading into the city will be closed from around 12 noon on Monday, according to the Neubrandenburg public utilities (Neu.sw). The replacement stops will be located on the median strip of Salvador-Allende-Straße. However, no major delays are expected due to the work, they say.
