The North Sumatra Provincial Government has ensured that the construction of the main stadium at the North Sumatra Sport Center will be completed on September 9, 2024. Thus, the stadium can be used for the closing ceremony of the 2024 North Sumatra-Aceh National Sports Week on September 20, 2024.
“The North Sumatra Sport Center Main Stadium will be completed on September 9,” said Ilyas Sitorus, Head of the North Sumatra Communication and Information Service, Tuesday (27/8).
Currently, the contractor has added a fleet of heavy equipment to speed up the transportation of materials. TNI and Polri personnel have also been assigned to help complete the construction.
Previously, the PB PON 2024 North Sumatra Region had collaborated with the TNI and Polri regarding the acceleration of the construction of the main stadium of the North Sumatra Sport Center. The project work process has also been carried out continuously (nonstop) for 24 hours, since some time ago.
With the completion of construction on September 9, the main stadium of the North Sumatra Sport Center is certain to be used as a venue for the closing ceremony of this year’s PON. The match venues, including those in the Sport Center area, are certain to be completed no later than August 31, 2024.
The construction of the main stadium in the North Sumatra Sport Center area was recorded as having begun with the signing of the project work contract on September 20, 2023. The stadium, located in Sena Village, Batang Kuis District, Deliserdang Regency, is projected to have a capacity of up to 25,000 seats.

The construction cost is worth IDR 587 billion and involves five companies, namely PT Adhi Karya, PT Pembangunan Perumahan (PP) and Penta, as construction service providers, and PT Jaya Construction Management (JCM) and PT Ciriajasa KSO, as construction management service providers.
The sports facility will be an iconic stadium because it will be part of the design of the oil palm tree shape of the Sport Center area. The main stadium will also be a vital facility in the total area of 99.83 hectares of the North Sumatra Sport Center area, in addition to the madya stadium, martial arts building and other sports facilities.
North Sumatra and Aceh will co-host the PON which will be held on 8-20 September 2024. The opening ceremony of this largest sporting event in Indonesia will be held in Aceh, while the closing ceremony will be held in North Sumatra.
In addition to the closing ceremony, North Sumatra will also host matches from 34 sports. Among others are aquatic, athletics, MTB cycling, barongsai, horse riding, motorcycling, billiards and bodybuilding. Then volleyball, bowling, badminton, chess, dancesport, drumband, e-sport, gateball, golf and wrestling.
Next are hockey, Ju-jitsu, kabaddi, karate, kickboxing, pencak silat, sambo, gymnastics, women’s soccer, water skiing, squash, taekwondo, table tennis, boxing and wushu. The matches of these sports will be held in 38 venues. (YP/Z-6)
