Asunción, IP Agency.- With 7.6% progress above the official schedule, the paving works of route PY21 are located, on one of the fronts that corresponds to Lot 1, in the Itakyry intersection area and extends 27 km to the city of Mbaracayú, which means that more items were fulfilled than initially anticipated.
This was reported by the Ministry of Public Works and Communications, following a recent visit by the mission of the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), which confirmed the auspicious progress of the works on the section that starts from the junction with the superhighway ( route PY07) and reaches Puerto Indio, in the district of Mbaracayú, Alto Paraná.
During the tour, the CAF technicians received a presentation from the inspection company regarding the work undertaken at the site, as well as the complementary works.
The mission also verified the machinery and equipment, the quarry, the crushing plants, soil treatment plants, concrete and asphalt reservoirs.
In this first batch, the main items currently being executed consist of cleaning, clearing and clearing, embankment execution, improved subgrade placement, granular base and primer irrigation. Likewise, the placement of cellular transversal culverts, execution of piles for the foundation of bridges and the transfer of power lines.
Regional integration work
This road infrastructure is part of a large project that aims to integrate the South American Regional Infrastructure (IIRSA), which includes the construction of the Paraguay – Paraná Waterway axis, Group 2: Tieté – Paraná (Itaipu), where Paraguay and Brazil intervene.
IIRSA is an agreement between 12 South American countries, materialized through 12 marketing axes that include various infrastructure projects.
The route to Puerto Indio seeks to integrate the district of Mbaracayú, department of Alto Paraná, and its area of influence with the rest of the country and with Brazil, by paving 61 km of the PY21 route. With this, it also seeks to reduce transportation costs, boost private investment and generate employment in the area.
Work lots
The new highway is being built in two lots through the Highway Construction and Maintenance Contract by Service Levels (CCOMA).
Lot 1 has 27 km and is in charge of the company Benito Roggio e Hijos SA under the supervision of the Grimaux – Electroconsult Consortium; while Lot 2 comprises 33.3 km in total and is inspected by the TYPSA – AII Consortium.
