Construction of 10 bridges.. A plan to expand and develop the “Cairo-Alexandria” agricultural road

implemented Ministry of Transportation Through the General Authority for Roads and Bridges, the work of developing and expanding the Alexandria Agricultural Road with a length of 220 km, due to its importance as it connects a large number of governorates from Cairo to Alexandria.

The Alexandria Agricultural Road was the main road connecting Alexandria with Cairo and the governorates and the delta. It was called the highway and was opened in 1959, as a result of the road passing through many important cities and capitals of the governorates, which led to urban sprawl, road suffocation, and the inability to expand it.

Road development and expansion plan:

• Recycling of existing paving layers using modern systems.

• Widening the road by 2 lanes / direction to reach 4 lanes / direction in the distances outside the residential blocks.

• Construction of 10 overhead bridges to solve surface intersections and free up cross-city traffic.

4 bridges have been completed (Al-Sharqawiyyah – Qalama – Al-Shammout – Toukh Tanbasha) and 6 bridges are under construction, the most important of which are the Ajhour and Arab Al-Raml bridges.
