Constant hunger is a sign of a serious illness

Al-Marsad newspaper: The Russian doctor, Leah Kavasheli, a health nutritionist, announced that constant hunger is a sign of a serious illness.

The doctor notes that persistent hunger is a sign of diabetes, gastritis, stomach ulcers, and other serious diseases.

According to her, if the feeling of hunger appears following eating or this feeling continues and does not go away, it indicates diabetes or stomach problems once morest the background of a hormonal imbalance in the body.

And she adds, one of the reasons for constant hunger lies in the failure of the hormone leptin, which affects the center of feeling full. Leptin is a protein hormone secreted by adipose tissue cells, especially white adipose tissue, in response to food intake. Therefore, if this hormone fails, the cells remain “starved”, because they do not get glucose because the receptors are insensitive. This indicates, that the person suffers from insulin resistance, ie type 2 diabetes.

And she explains, the constant feeling of hunger also indicates a psychological disorder – food addiction, classified as a disorder of binge eating.

According to her, first of all it is necessary to exclude the psychological factor (eating stress) and diagnose the medical aspects of the problem. She recommends that you first start by seeing doctors who specialize in gastroenterology, endocrinology, and others.

“After passing all the examinations and tests and diagnosing the cause of the constant hunger, the doctor prescribes medications to adjust the hormonal balance and insulin resistance,” she says.
