Dammam: Mobile chargers and chargers for electronic devices are being consolidated in Saudi Arabia. Only USB Type C chargers will be allowed. The Act will come into effect from January 1, 2025. The decision is part of curbing electronic waste.
The new announcement was made by the Saudi Standards Metrology and Quality Organization. The action is in collaboration with the Communication and Space and Technology Commission. The aim is to unify chargers for mobile electronic devices in the country.
The second phase of the Act, which will be implemented in two phases, will be completed by April 2026. Only chargers that fall under the USB Type C category will be approved. Otherwise, manufacture and import in the country will be prohibited.
Mobiles, tablets, digital cameras, video game devices, headphones and computer equipment will be covered in the first phase and laptops in the second phase. The law aims to provide better service to consumers and avoid additional costs.
