Console sales are rebounding well at the start of the year, thank you who? It’s spelled “PS5”

The shortage is well and truly behind Sony, which saw PS5 sales increase by 369% compared to the first quarter of 2022. A surge which is largely explained by the availability of consoles, which are now quite easily found in shelves and from online retailers. Add to that the popularity of the PlayStation brand on the Old Continent, and we get consoles that sell like hotcakes.

For their part, Nintendo and Microsoft concede ground with consoles that sell 18% and 10% less than last year. The reasons for these declines are more diverse, with on the one hand a hybrid console which is reaching the end of its career, having settled in very many homes, and on the other the Xbox Series less popular but also a little easier to be found at the height of the shortage.

In total, this gives a 41% increase in console sales, with 1.5 million machines sold in selected markets. If we focus on the month of March, we notice that Sony has multiplied its PS5 sales by five, a figure once more to be put into perspective with regard to the shortage which prevailed in 2022. As for the sales of accessories, they are up 5% year-on-year with 4.7 million products sold.
