Console Modder Makes Fake Portable GameCube Mockup Real

Think back to previous Nintendo generations and you might remember the GameCube handheld console models inspired by the Game Boy Advance SP. If you’ve always wanted a real version of something like this, well this is it GingerOfOz console modder and YouTuber created.

The modder was able to downscale this model to a Game Boy Advance SP style handheld device. In truth, it actually runs a “shortened” Wii motherboard that apparently supports Nintendo’s GameCube library of games.

To stay true to the GameCube experience, custom software has been added that includes the classic splash screen. And if you’re wondering regarding the display, it’s 480p. There’s also headphone support and the entire device was designed using graphics software and 3D printing. The only downside seems to be the battery life – which only lasts an hour and a half.

Oh and GingerOfMods also went deep into the original concept. Apparently the person’s name is Demond (known as “gcpguy22” on Instagram) and he just made the model for fun while he was in college. He then uploaded it to see if people would think it was legit at the time, and the rest is history.

The same YouTube channel has previously shared videos from wii portable and PlayStation 2 handheld consoles. What do you think of this real-life replica? Leave a comment below.
